What’s Really Holding You Back from Marketing Your Holistic Business

Decorative: What’s Really Holding You Back from Marketing Your Holistic Business

Marketing your health and wellbeing business shouldn’t feel like an uphill battle. Yet for many practitioners, it does. You care deeply about helping others, but when it comes to marketing yourself, you freeze, procrastinate, or jump between activities, hoping something sticks.

It’s not that you’re not committed - you’ve just become stuck trying to market yourself in ways that don’t feel good and aren’t working. Let’s talk about what’s getting in the way of your marketing and how to change it.

The Invisible Block: Why Marketing Can Feel So Hard

Many practitioners don’t struggle with marketing because they lack skill; they struggle because the thought of being visible feels scary. You worry about what people will think. You compare yourself to others who look like they’re flying. You don’t want to come across as being pushy or salesy.

When you’re already juggling a full life, it’s no wonder marketing slips to the bottom of the list. But when you approach it from a place of connection and service, it becomes far easier.

You don’t need to jump into the spotlight straight away. Start with one small step that stretches you, such as commenting in groups, recording a short video and sharing it as a story, or sending an email to your list.

Takeaway: Good quality marketing is about building relationships, not forcing yourself on others.

Next time you worry about what someone thinks about you, remember this:

  • Your marketing isn’t all about you; it’s for the people you can help.
  • You’re the only one who is judging and criticising what you do in that way.
  • Just because someone looks successful on Instagram, it doesn’t mean they have a full diary of amazing clients.

The Overwhelm Trap: Too Many Ideas, No Clear Plan

Most practitioners start with a scattergun approach: social media posts, flyers, blogs, networking, freebies - but there’s no strategy or structure behind it. Marketing becomes a list of “shoulds” that never get done. Or worse, you do all the things and still don’t see results.

Joanne swung between posting daily on social media and disappearing for months. Her marketing was always left until “next week.” Together, we looked at what was actually working for her. It turns out, her best clients came as recommendations from people in her community. So, we shifted her focus there and looked for ways to increase her profile locally. The result? Her confidence grew, and so did her income.

Takeaway: Focus on what works for you, not what you see everyone else doing. If you don’t already, get into the habit of asking each new enquiry and client where they found out about you. This will help you identify what marketing is already working for you.

Tiny Steps, Big Shifts: Creating Habits That Build Confidence

You don’t need a complete rebrand, a new website, or a viral video to grow your business. You need habits that support consistent visibility. Simple actions, done regularly, build momentum and self-trust.

Start small. One email a month. One meaningful conversation a week. One community event. Your marketing rhythm doesn’t need to match anyone else’s; it needs to work for you.

Takeaway: You’ve got this. Start simple and pick the marketing activities that work to your strengths. If you’re not sure what to do, ask yourself:

  • How do I naturally communicate best - writing, speaking, networking?
  • What marketing feels comfortable and authentic to me?

And commit to creating a habit that you can easily stick to. Once you get consistent, you can then add in other activities. It’s quality over quantity when it comes to your marketing, and it is better to do one thing well than use a scatter gun approach.

You’re Not Meant to Do It Alone: The Power of Accountability

Here’s the secret: most people don’t fail because of a lack of knowledge. They fail because they try to do it all alone. Without support, it’s too easy to doubt yourself and not do the work that will make the most difference to your business because it’s scary.

That’s why professional guidance can be a game-changer. An experienced mentor will give you clarity, confidence, and the nudge to keep going when you’d otherwise stop.

Accountability has been a game-changer for me. I have a strong support network, including a business buddy and a mastermind group who hold me accountable. Committing to what I want to achieve each week and knowing I need to report back on my progress has kept me motivated to do the work and helped me progress far faster than struggling on alone.

Takeaway: Accountability isn’t about pressure; it’s about support to take the right action.
