Too Many Ideas? Here’s How to Focus and Finish the Year Well
Nov 06, 2025
How are you feeling as we approach the end of the year?
If your head is buzzing with ideas, upskilling, new services, collaborations, projects, marketing, planning - you’re not alone. I’ve been doing some marketing research in preparation for a new programme I’ll be launching in January 2026 (more on that soon!), and a strong theme is emerging.
Practitioners saying, “I’ve got too many ideas going around in my head, and I don’t know where to start.”
And what happens when you feel like that? A scattered approach. One moment you're working on your website, the next you’re drafting a workshop, then researching a new course to take. Meanwhile, your marketing gets patchy, client flow slows, and your confidence takes a knock.
You don’t have time to do everything you want to do. But you can still make huge progress - if you choose to focus on the right thing.
Here’s how to stop going around in circles and finish the year feeling proud of what you've achieved.
1. Clarity Beats Hustle
There are only a few weeks left of this year. That can feel like pressure, or it can feel like possibility.
You could continue to spin your wheels, trying to do all the things before Christmas. Or you could give yourself the gift of clarity and choose just one project to focus on.
Because when everything’s a priority, nothing is. But when one project gets your full attention, progress becomes inevitable.
2. Your Ideas May Be Great, But the Execution’s Missing
Most of the practitioners I speak to are full of creativity and vision, and your ideas have the potential to be brilliant.
The problem isn’t the ideas, it’s knowing what to focus on first, and seeing it through to the end.
That’s where things fall apart. That’s where confidence gets chipped away.
The question isn’t “What should I do?” - it's “What matters most right now?”.
3. Start with Your Number One Priority
Before you pick a project, you need to know your number one priority - the thing your business needs most right now.
Ask yourself:
- Is it income? Do you need to bring in more clients or increase your pricing to make your business viable?
- Is it time? Are you fully booked but exhausted, and need to streamline your systems or strengthen your boundaries?
- Is it impactful? Are your time and income steady, and you’re ready to scale and grow your impact?
This is your compass. Every project idea should be tested against it.
4. Audit Your Projects with a Simple Filter
Take a few minutes to brain-dump all the ideas and projects currently in your head or on your to-do list. No judgment, just get them down.
Then, ask yourself for each item:
- Does this project align with my main priority?
- Will it make a real difference to me or my clients in the next 6 weeks?
- Do I have the time, energy, and money to execute it properly?
- Is this something I want to do, or something I think I should do?
Be honest with yourself. The half-finished online course you think you should launch might be worth shelving for now. But the workshop you love delivering and know people are asking for - that might be the one.
The reality is, you don’t have time to do everything you want to do. But you can make real progress by choosing one project - the one that will make the biggest difference to you and your clients.
5. Choose One Project (Yes, Just One)
You may want to do more, but this isn’t about “shoulds.” It’s about getting something finished.
Here’s how to choose your one focus project:
- It’s aligned with your #1 business priority – it helps solve your biggest business challenge right now (income, time, or impact).
- Provides a win – you can start and complete it (or at least a phase of it) before the end of the year.
- Energises you – you feel excited, not drained, by the thought of finishing it.
If you’ve got two strong options, pick the one that feels lighter. The one you’re more likely to actually do. Don’t overthink - decide and commit.
6. Your Mini End-of-Year Focus Sprint
Once you’ve chosen your project, structure your time into a simple 3-week sprint. Here’s a suggested framework:
Week 1 – Clarify, plan, and get started
Define exactly what “done” looks like. Break the project into small tasks. Block time in your diary and get started on the first steps.
Week 2 – Do the Work
Minimise distractions. Set clear boundaries. Ask for support. Keep showing up and making progress.
Week 3 – Finish and celebrate
Launch it, use it, offer it, and reflect on and celebrate what you’ve achieved.
You don’t need to be perfect. You just need to do the work and make it happen.
You’ve Still Got Time, But Only If You Focus
This isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing what matters.
Let the rest go - just for now. Your other ideas aren’t going anywhere. You can revisit them for the New Year with fresh energy and inspired by the progress you’ll have already made.
For now:
- Choose one thing.
- Focus your energy.
- Finish strong.
You’ll feel clearer, lighter, and more confident heading into next year.
