Decorative - The Power of Letting Go

For me, simplifying always starts with letting go.

This past year, I’ve been craving a simpler way of life and doing business. That’s meant making some huge decisions, like leaving behind our dream home in Wales and relocating to Suffolk. It wasn’t easy to let go of the house we loved and had just finished renovating, because we realised it was no longer supporting the life we wanted. Now, we’re closer to family and friends. We also have a smaller, easier house to look after as we get older, and have the space and ease we want.

The same shift has been happening in my business.

After years of offering a wide range of support and services, I knew I was spreading myself too thin, too many options, too much marketing, and a tendency to overdeliver. It’s unsustainable, and ironically, not serving my clients in the way I truly wanted to.

So, I’ve been letting go.

Letting go of offers and marketing assets like my 200-episode podcast and my free Facebook group. While these things once served a purpose, they no longer feel aligned. I’ve returned to what matters most: helping health and wellbeing practitioners attract more clients, simply and sustainably.

Here’s what I’ve learned...

  • Letting go doesn’t mean failure. It means freedom.
  • Letting go creates space.
  • Letting go invites clarity, ease, and energy back into your life and work.

If you’ve been feeling stuck, scattered, or pulled in too many directions - maybe it’s time to let go of something, too.

Here are the steps I’ve followed (and continue to follow) that might help you do the same:

Awareness: What doesn’t feel right?

Start by noticing what’s feeling heavy, unproductive or out of alignment. For me, this awareness came from looking closely at client discovery calls, onboarding forms, testimonials, and conversations. The pattern was clear — my clients didn’t need everything I offered. They simply needed clarity and clients.

What in your life or business feels unnecessarily complex or energy-sapping?

Reflect: What really matters now?

Once you’re aware, give yourself space to reflect.

I took a long, honest look at everything I was offering and asked: What is absolutely necessary? What’s helping me and my clients move forward? What’s just noise?

This stage is about quieting the busy mind. For me, this was when I was out on a dog walk, doing chores like cleaning or gardening, or driving, where I could ponder, allowing thoughts to come and go. I found my best answers came when I wasn’t trying to force them, and usually while out in nature or doing something totally unrelated.

Acceptance: Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should

This was a tough one.

I had to accept that just because I have certain skills, it doesn’t mean I have to use them for every client or in every offer. I had invested time, money, and heart into developing my business and marketing, but that doesn’t mean they have to be part of my new chapter.

Acceptance helped me loosen my grip on things that were no longer a good fit. It reminded me that change doesn’t erase past value, it simply creates space for what’s next.

Make a Plan: Simplify with intention

I love a good plan - especially one that creates space.

I mapped out the rest of my year with a clear focus: ease, clarity, and alignment. That meant I’d be retiring old offers, reshaping others, and building a new approach that answers one real, urgent need: helping overwhelmed practitioners find more clients. That’s it!

What would a simplified plan look like for you? What could you stop doing, automate, or delegate? Where could you add a sense of ease to your business?

Let Go: Create Space for What’s Next

Sometimes, letting go needs a little ceremony.

For me, it was deleting my podcast and closing my Facebook group. I didn’t do either on a whim but with respect for the role they’d played and the people who had joined me. And with excitement for the space and opportunities they created.

I’ve also used small ceremonies, like burning notes that captured the thoughts or words I was letting go of. I took time to consider each point - why I was letting it go, and to thank it for what it had given or taught me.

Letting go doesn’t mean something was wrong; it just means it’s time for something new.

Be Kind: Honour the process

This work is not always easy.

Letting go of things I’d poured my heart and soul into has tested me. There have been times when I kept things going for much longer than I should have, but once I made the decision, I’ve learned to be kind to myself while I navigate the process. This isn’t about rushing to the next thing or letting go of everything immediately. It’s a process that requires compassion and courage, and being okay that at times, it feels messy.

Where do you need to show yourself more kindness as you simplify?
