How to Stand Out in Your Local Area
Being visible in your local area will let more people know you exist which equals more potential clients.
Are you making the most of the physical space in and around your business to help you stand out?
People are busy and even if they are local, they may not realise you’re there. There are things you can do to help grab their attention and let them know you exist. You can use this idea to inject some personality into your marketing and business.
It goes without saying, you have to provide your clients with an amazing experience to survive. What can you do to make your business stand out even more in your community?
If you have a clinic, do you have good quality signage outside? Old and battered signs will affect the perception of the quality of your services and reflect badly on you.
Visible signage is a good marketing tool to reinforce your brand as well as helping people locate your business.
Don’t limit yourself to a clinic facia, there are many other options available such as nameplates, window graphics, floor graphics, A-frames and notice boards.
Signs don’t have to be limited to a clinic; you can have your car branded to help you stand out locally. It will then be a mobile advertisement for your business and go wherever you drive.
Depending on your budget and requirements, you can have removable magnetic graphics, full vinyl wraps and everything in between.
Ideas to share
There’s a Smart car locally to me who have taken car advertising to the next level by covering it in AstroTurf. It certainly stands out and bought a smile to my face when I first saw it. I even Googled the car to find out what it was all about, what a brilliant example of shareable marketing!
Something similar is an Osteopath who has ‘Stan the skeleton’ in their clinic window. He’s become a bit of a local celebrity where he changes position or is accessorized depending on the season, or what’s happening locally. The community love him and share his antics on social media – what a genius idea!
The London tube stations who write notes and inspirational poems to their customers. These handwritten notes on whiteboards are often shared on social media.
Think about what you can create related to your business that grabs attention and people will want to share with others.
I go into more detail about creating ideas to share in my article on word of mouth marketing.
Do you have an amazing waiting room which is the ultimate place to relax? Do you provide little extras such as fresh coffee, a children’s play area, artwork on display from local artists or something that makes coming to see you different?
- Paint your front door something bright and eye-catching – my osteopath has a bright yellow door which stands out in a rather reserved area.
- Are you known for a certain sense of dress or style such as wearing funky hats or a particular colour?
- Use your walls as art and amazing murals painted on them.
Get creative and see what you can come up with. It doesn’t have to cost lots of money, but the effects can be well worth the effort.
