Create Your Google My Business Page
If you run a complementary practice where you see clients in person, you qualify to have a free Google My Business (GMB) page. Whether you have a website or not, increase your online presence by setting yours up today.
GMB is an amazing free tool which allows you to manage how you appear in Google searches and maps. GMB pages allow Google to provide answers to its users in one place without having to visit different websites, so you need to make sure you’re listed.
Your page includes general information about your business, photos, where you can collect reviews and respond to them, and create short term promotions.
Create a GMB listing
Create a listing either from your existing Google account or create a new one.
Simply visit the GMB website, click ‘start’ and add your business name, agree to the terms and conditions and complete in the form. Once done, you’ll need to verify your business. This can be done in several ways including by post, email or phone – pick whichever suits you. You’ll receive a code (or link) by your chosen method which you use to verify your account for your page to appear.
Complete your profile
Once verified, you go back into your profile and start to add information to reflect the work you do. In this section, you add in your contact details, your opening hours, etc. It’s important to get your listing as accurate as possible as anyone can suggest an edit.
Include photos as they will help you stand out and attract attention.
Profile photo – this will show your identity when you post a photo or respond to a review
Cover photo – this should reflect your brand and personality and is the main photo to be shown in Google searches and maps.
Video – use a short video of up to 30 seconds to communicate your uniqueness
Additional photos – use different images these to make your listing stand out and provide useful information. Consider:
- Exterior photos so clients know what to look for when they visit you
- Interior photos of your reception area and/or consulting rooms
- Photos of you working with clients or your products
- Your team and colleagues
Ask happy clients to leave a review on your GMB page as it provides social proof for the quality of your work. Always respond to reviews you receive, especially if they are negative. It’s important to address any in a professional and courteous way as these are public and you want to leave a good impression at all costs.
Add in Google Posts
Google Posts are where you create content to promote offers, events, and announcements. It’s a free option and provided to any business with a GMB listing. To keep content fresh, posts are displayed for seven days unless it’s an event which will disappear when the event finishes.
Posts are a great way to promote your business locally without having to spend a lot of money. You will need to spend some time crafting your post with the following:
- Stick to one message per post
- Have a good heading that appeals to what your client is searching for
- Clear and concise text – only the first 100 characters show up so make them count
- Use a great image or video that stands out and is good quality
